Privacy policy
Steps is a step-counting game. This page says exactly what leaves your phone, why, and how to make it stop.
Health data
Steps reads Step Count from Apple Health. It is read-only — the app never writes back to Health, and it never asks for any other Health data type.
Only a daily total leaves your device. Raw samples — individual readings, timestamps, source device identifiers — are processed on your phone and never transmitted. What reaches our server is one number per day: the deduplicated total across your iPhone and Apple Watch, after anything written by a third-party app is dropped.
Health data is never used for advertising, never sold, and never shared with any third party. It is never written to iCloud by this app. It is used for exactly one purpose: showing your total on the boards of races you have joined.
What we collect
| Data | Linked to you | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Daily step totals | Yes | App functionality — standings, race progress |
| Account and device identifiers | Yes | App functionality — sign-in, anti-abuse |
| Call sign and race names you create | Yes | App functionality — shown to people you race |
Nothing else. No location, no advertising identifiers, no third-party analytics SDKs, no tracking of you across other apps or websites.
Steps uses Sign in with Apple and asks for no extra scopes — no name, no email is requested by the app. Depending on the choice you made with Apple, an email address may still reach our authentication provider as part of the sign-in token; if so it is used only to identify your account and is never used to contact you outside the app.
Deleting your account
Account deletion is in-app, with no email required: open your player card and choose Delete everything. This immediately removes your profile from every race you can see. Full removal of your step history and account data from our backups completes within 30 days.
